Democrats fail to advance the budget - now what?
On Wednesday, February 18, the Maine House voted down LD 210, the supplemental budget, with six Democrats joining Republicans in opposition. Although it’s technically a supplemental budget, since Democrats passed their partisan baseline budget earlier this year, it’s essentially most of the budget for the forthcoming biennium.

The Maine Senate later approved the plan, so the vote referenced above was not the final word. Still, while the budget will likely eventually be passed after some arm-wrangling, this represents an embarrassing defeat for Maine governor Janet Mills, with her party in full control of both chambers.
