Maine Dems create woke delegate database
With caucuses today and tomorrow, their priorities are clear
All across Maine this weekend, throughout the sixteen counties of our state, Democrats are having caucuses to decide who will replace the disgraced Oystergruppenfuhrer Graham Platner, who had to have his Nazi tattoo covered up. After receiving the votes of 156,084 Mainers - Democrats and unenrolled voters alike - on June 9, he withdrew following yet another credible allegation of sexual assault. Democrats have set up a process to replace him as their nominee with a system that deliberately excludes unenrolled voters and doesn’t use ranked-choice voting; you can learn more about it here. They’ll vote repeatedly at the convention: all twelve candidates appear on the first ballot, only the top five advance, and the last-place finisher is eliminated after each subsequent round until someone wins a majority.
They’ll be having a nominating convention Saturday, July 25, in Bangor, but first they have to elect the delegates to that convention at county caucuses, and that’s what’s happening this weekend. About 3,660 people are running for five hundred delegate spots at the state convention; the 101-person Maine Democratic State Committee will also all be delegates.
